IN-FLOW 2 is a highly efficient scintillator for use with dilute aqueous salt or buffer solutions or polar samples. Best used with mixing ratios of 3:1, which lead to 3H counting efficiencies of 40-45%. IN-FLOW 2 is often less affected by gradient change than other counting solutions and should be evaluated when sharp gradient change is anticipated.

If one of our scintillators can be termed ‘best’, it is IN-FLOW 2:1. Though each may be better for some specific application, none offer the universality of IN-FLOW 2:1. IN-FLOW 2:1 meets the first tests for a flow-through scintillator - fluidity and clarity - far better than any other counting mixture. Suitable for counting 3H-containing aqueous solutions at a 2:1 scintillator:mobile phase ratio, it also is being routinely used for 14C at 1:1.

When your goal is to reach a high water content and therefore a lower total flow rate for increased counting time, IN-FLOW 3 should be evaluated. IN-FLOW 3 tends to resist gel formation over the entire range from 0% to 33% (2:1). A good scintillator is more than just fluid at a particular composition; it must be fluid at all compositions leading to that chosen mixture for if it stiffens during the mixing process the desired composition may never be reached. IN-FLOW 3 rates particularly well in this regard and is used with lipid-containing acetonitrile, methanol mobile phases, with or without significant water content.

IN-FLOW BD, our original biodegradable liquid scintillator was formulated for 3H and 14C work with high salt and buffer samples. Though not equal in capacity to IN-FLOW TC, and with slightly lower counting efficiency for 3H, its biodegradability makes it of interest when circumstances force the use of a solution that can be freely disposed of. At 3:1 ratio, IN-FLOW BD can be employed with all concentrations of ammonium phosphate and ammonium formate from 0 to 2 M. It is especially suitable for plasma and for tissue extracts.

IN-FLOW ES was originally developed to answer the need for a scintillator solution to accommodate water/acetonitrile gradients over the range from 100% water to 100% ACN. It has since been found equally suitable for water/MeOH over the same range. It has a high holding capacity for mildly buffered mobile phases. IN-FLOW ES mixes easily and gives clear fluid solutions with sample loads up to 33% (2:1 mixing ratio), but best performance is normally obtained at a 3:1 ratio.
